It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college
graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption.

So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night
asking:

"We have an unexpected baby boy, do you want him?"
"어떡하죠? 예정에 없던 사내아이가 태어났는데, 그래도 입양하실 건가요?"
They said: "Of course."

My biological mother later found out that my mother had never graduated from
college and that my father had never graduated from high school.
그런데 알고보니 양어머니는 대졸자도 아니었고, 양아버지는 고등학교도 졸업못한 사람이어서
She refused to sign the final adoption papers.
친어머니는 입양동의서 쓰기를 거부했습니다.
She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would
someday go to college.
친어머니는 양부모님들이 저를 꼭 대학까지 보내주겠다고 약속한 후 몇개월이 지나서야 화가 풀렸습니다.
And 17years later I did go to college.
17년후, 저는 대학에 입학했습니다.
